Walker College Consultants was founded to address the need for quality college advising for families of all backgrounds in the Las Vegas area. Having worked in the field of college advising and community outreach since 2005, Herbie Walker was keenly aware that – even in the year 2015 – many families did not have access to quality college counseling at a reasonable cost.
High school counselors in our area face overwhelming caseloads and often cannot devote the time necessary to help students stay on top of all of the opportunities, deadlines, and college application-related tasks in front of them. Combined with the constantly changing landscape of college admissions, it is difficult for many high school counselors to stay current on the best methods for admission. Improving the access of students and families to quality college advising was the driving force behind making services available to those who need it the most.
At Walker College Consultants, our goal is to help families navigate this complicated landscape. What is required of each student to compile a successful application differs by state, major, and whether a college is a public or private institution. It’s a lot to deal with for many families, and we want our clients to feel at ease during the process. That’s why the bulk of our college admissions consulting in Las Vegas is done via one-on-one consultations.

Herbie Walker’s career has focused on providing accessible and equitable opportunities to high school age students, particularly those traditionally underserved and overlooked by the education system. Since 2006, he has worked with organizations and schools to prepare high school students for a college education; find the right match for their needs, talents, and interests, and support them in the application and enrollment process.
Herbie’s college admissions success included developing summer enrichment programs with Ivy League Colleges, HBCU’s, & international partnerships with the State Department. Later, establishing Las Vegas as a recruitment hub for colleges with the planning and hosting of multiple fairs a year and lobbying in Washington D.C. for federal funding increases to support low-income students. His holistic approach to transforming students’ schools and lives emphasizes college readiness and positive leadership, fostering a culture of engagement and giving students the tools and confidence to excel. He focuses on the vital role of parent engagement, and he prioritizes open communication with families throughout a student’s high school career.
In addition to a BA in Public Policy & African-American Studies from the University of Maryland and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Nevada, Herbie holds certifications in college admissions and counseling from the University of California, Los Angeles. His experience makes him an expert resource for establishing, evaluating, and improving programs focused on exciting students about college, preparing them for the rigors of higher education, and refining their applications for scholarships and admission. To date, Herbie had helped hundreds of students fulfill their potential and achieve their goals.
